Project structure

Identification, implementation, and monitoring of environmental risk indicators in the coastal zones of the Cooperation Areas.

Action 1.1: Optimisation of environmental risk indicators in the coastal zones of the Cooperation Area.

Action 1.2: Design and deployment of measurement systems to optimisation of environmental indicators.

Coordination: Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas.

Participants: Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR, Dirección General de Energías Renovables y Cambio Climático, Intecmar, Centro Oceanográfico de A Coruña (Sede – A Coruña), Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas, Universidad de Vigo and INES TEC.

Common methodologies in the assessment of CO2 fluxes in coastal areas, with a special focus on BCEs and their role in carbon sequestration.

Action 2.1: Estimation of carbon flux variability in the coastal zone.

Action 2.2: Update the mapping of the BCEs on the Galician and Portugal coasts based on the use of satellite images.

Action 2.3: Estimation of carbon reservoirs in BCEs.

Coordination: Universidade do Porto FCUP.

Participants: Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR, Centro Oceanográfico de A Coruña (Sede – A Coruña), Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas, Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade do Porto FCUP, Universidad de Vigo, Universidade da Coruña and CIIMAR.

Review of climate scenarios and evaluation of environmental risks in the Cooperation Area based on IPCC climate projections.

Action 3.1: Analysis of environmental risks at the “Cooperation Area” scale based on projections with global coverage.

Action 3.2: Assessment of the main risks and trends in carbon fluxes in coastal waters.

Action 3.3: Identification of the main environmental risks in carbon sequestration at BCEs level.

Coordination: Universidad de Vigo.

Participants: Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR, Dirección General de Energías Renovables y Cambio Climático, Centro Oceanográfico de A Coruña (Sede – A Coruña), Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas, Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade do Porto FCUP, Universidad de Vigo and Universidade da Coruña.

Supporting Climate Change adaptation, ecosystem services management, and related policy deployment.

Action: 4.1: Provide accessibility to data through the RAIA Cross-Border Observatory.

Action 4.2: Updating and integration of the visualization tool for climate change indicators on the RAIA Observatory website.
