On April 29, 2024, IES Gondomar traveled to Cortegada Island to carry out an educational activity. Cortegada Island is a paradise of flora, fauna, and an enriching historical past in the Ría de Arousa.
This excursion was part of activity 6 of the “Visibility, transparency and communication” project. The students received explanations from 3 specialist guides from CORTEGADA TURISMO MEDIOAMBIENTAL during the route along the authorized trails of this island of the Atlantic Islands National Park, discovering the remains of its abandoned village, its laurel forest, the most important in Europe.
In addition, the students received information about the Cortegada platform from Cetmar technical staff. This ocean-meteorological platform, located at the head of the Ría de Arousa, has been operational since 2008. The day ended with an interesting talk about shellfishing on Carril beach, given by AmarCarril shellfish harvesters.
